Card playing is a very popular game of gambling played in all over the world. Evidences show that the gambling was also played in England in 1377. But the cards were made in China in ninth century where the paper was invented. A complete set of cards is called Deck or Pack. There are various types of cards playing.
We can divide them by the mechanism used in these games for playing. According to the mechanism used in these games to play, we can divide them in five catagories:
1.) Outplay games: In these type of games, all the players have their own set of cards and every player has to make a move by playing out one or more cards. The game stops at the moment when all except the one lose all their cards and the last player left with cards becomes the winner of the card game. For example fishing games, beating games, trick-taking games, climbing games etc.
2.) Card-Exchange games: In these games, All the players have their own set of cards and on their move they have to exhange one or more cards with other players or with the cards lying on the table with their faces down. The players of these type of card games have to get cards of the same set or some combination of cards. The player who first collects the complete combination of cards becomes the winner of the card exchange game. For example Cuckoo, Quartet, card-passing games, draw and discard games etc.
3.) Comparison games: In these type of games the players actually does not pass any card. The winner is decided just on the basis of the comparison of the cards the players have and declaring the winner who has the best combination of the cards. For example Showdown, Vying, Banking games etc.
4.) Patience games: In these type of games, the player sort the cards in a typical manner according to the speified rules and arrange them on the given layout. For example Solitaire, Competitive patience etc.
5.) Other games: Those games which do not lie in any of the catagories like outplay games, card-exchange games, comparison games, patience games are called as other games. They can have any type of rules. For example Combat, Compendium games etc.
According to the objectives, the card games can be classified into five catagories:
1. Card-capturing games: In card-capturing games, all the cards can have same or different values. The objective of these games lie in the capturing of same kind or some specific combination of cards. For example Misere, Nolo, Bettel etc.
2. Card-comparing games: In these type of games, all players compare their cards and the player with the highest value cards, becomes the winner. For example Red-dog, Yablon etc.
3. Card-collecting or shedding games: In these type of games the objective of the players is to either collect all the cards of specified type or throwing away the cards of some specified category depending upon the rules of the game. For example Rummy games, Tien Len etc.
4. Card-combination games: In these type of games the player make some kind of combination of cards. On making combination, he gets points and at the end the player with the highest points becomes the winner. For example Vying, 7-27, Cuttle, Canasta etc.
5. Other games: The game which does not lie in any of the category of card-capturing, card-comparing,card collecting and shedding or card-combination can be classified in these games. For example, Three card Monte, Mafia, Werewolf, Pegs and Jokers etc.
